Tripartite Agreement explained

A lengthy meeting was held by Dr. Rachel Levmore of the YI Agunah and Get-Refusal Prevention Project with Rabbi Prof. Michael Broyde. Under discussion was the “Tripartite Agreement” which is a document signed just prior to the Huppa, by both the Chatan and the Kallah. It is a setting down of terms that prevent the woman from becoming a classic agunah should her husband disappear or fall into a permanent vegetative state. The two scholars had previously published an article they co-authored in “Tehumin” – the leading journal of halakha in Israel. Plans are being made to proceed with the dissemination of the agreement.
