Dr. Rachel Levmore, director of the YI /JAFI Agunah & Get-Refusal Prevention Project, was invited to participate in a seminar of Israel’s Justice Ministry – Jewish Law Department led by Dr. Chagai Schlesinger. The session was attended by 40 at representatives from the highest echelons of Israeli jurists and attorneys- the topic under discussion was “Denial of Welfare Benefits to Criminals.”
Dr. Levmore delivered an explanation of "The Rabbinical Courts Law", which affords the Rabbinical Courts the ability to cut or deny various welfare benefits to Get-Refusers. She noted how this law combines the ideals of Jewish Law, civil law and social cohesiveness.
