Rabbi Yeres attends special Chanukka celebration with the Deaf and Blind community

Rabbi Alexander Yeres, co-Director of IYIM’s Judaic Heritage Program for the Deaf, was invited to speak at the annual Chanukka party hosted by the Tel Aviv Center for the Deaf and Blind. Rabbi Yeres entranced the club members with a speech that included a passionate retelling of the Chanukka story, the tale of a Jewish soldier in the American Civil War who observed the holiday by lighting Hanukkah candles in the midst of the winter camp. He concluded the speech with a powerful message of unity and how the miracles of the Maccabees are reflected in modern day Israeli society. The party was a hit and it was amazing to see Rabbi Yeres’ speech interpreted by Deaf volunteers.
