Special joint session in the Knesset attended by Dr. Levmore

Following International Agunah Day, the Israeli Knesset arranged for a special joint session of two committees to mark the day. The Knesset Constitution and Law Committee together with the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of Women’s Status invited Dr. Rachel Levmore, director of the YI Agunah and Get-Refusal Prevention Project, to participate in a discussion of possible halakhic solutions to the problem of agunot and get-refusal. Firstly, Dr. Levmore submitted a position paper describing the efficacy of the Agreement for Mutual Respect together with the proposal of requiring each Religious Council to present it to couples registering for marriage—as is already done in two Religious Councils. This position paper can be found on the Knesset’s records here: https://fs.knesset.gov.il/24/Committees/24_cs_bg_622900.pdf. During the meeting itself, Dr. Levmore was called upon to present her paper which was done professionally, with the thanks of the Chair of the Committee. The video recording can be found in the Knesset’s records at https://main.knesset.gov.il/Activity/committees/huka/Pages/CommitteeTVarchive.aspx?TopicID=23778 from the minute 1:13:37-1:16:52.
