Prepping for Rosh Hashana virtually with the Deaf and Blind

Virtual Shofar Blowing by Rav Alex Yeres

As Rosh Hashana approached, Rabbi Alex Yeres from  theIYIM Judaic Heritage Program for the Deaf explained virtually to the Deaf and Blind participants the importance of Rosh Hashana and the blowing of the shofar.

In addition, he told a moving parable of a king who banished his son from the royal palace because of bad behavior. After many months of wandering, the son – the prince was received back by the father- the king. As the son was dirty and unkempt, he was recognized by the father only through his voice. So too we- the son are soiled by the sins we did during the year and we are only recognized by  Hashem  our father thanks to our voice praying.

Rabbi Yeres then explained the significance of the “good signs” – the simanim tovim at the Rosh Hashana meal. He concluded with the blowing of the shofar enabling those who could not see  to hear the vibrations of the shofar.
