Dr Levmore published in the Jerusalem Post

"Saviors of Diaspora Agunot "-article by Dr. Levmore

A lengthy article entitled “Saviors of Diaspora Agunot” authored by Dr. Rachel Levmore, director of the IYIM Project for the Prevention of Agunot and Get-Refusal was published by the Jeusalem Post on  on September 10th. The information included in the article provides crucial information for Diaspora Jewish communities and Rabbinical Courts the world-over. With clarity, Dr. Levmore explained the astounding success of a new law, passed by the Knesset in 2018 (with Dr. Levmore’s influence in its final wording), which empowered the Israeli State Rabbinical Courts to secure a get, within two years, for 57 (!) agunot who neither they nor their husbands were Israeli citizens. These women and their local Rabbinical Courts were in desperate straits, unable to free the agunot — until the Knesset and Israel’s Rabbinical Courts joined forces and saved their lives. It was also reported how an additional 25 gets were arranged in the European Rabbinical Courts due to the very existence of the law.
