Deaf Community of Bat Yam celebrates Pesach
Pesach this year was celebrated early for the Deaf community of Bat Yam with a full model seder two days before the chag. The event was attended by approximately 75 Deaf individuals from all different backgrounds. Some were from Ashkenazic influence like Russia and Europe, and others were from Sefardic influence like Morroco and Tunisia. All came together to learn how to lead a real Seder with customs and stories to enhance their own seder at home. The event had all the trimmings of a seder with maror, salt water, karpas and of course wine and matzas
A great educational experience, including time set aside for questions and answers, was had by all. The Moadon Club House for the Deaf in Bat Yam has grown amazingly over the years with International Young Israel’s involvement over the past decade. It has grown from a small group to close to a hundred people of a strong community.
