Dr. Levmore teaches Yeshiva students
Yeshivat HaKibbutz HaDati of Maaleh HaGilboa, in Northern Israel near Beit Shean, asked Dr. Rachel Levmore, director of the IYIM Agunah and Get-Refusal Prevention Project, to come and teach a full morning of study—the main Talmud and Jewish law classes of the day. The students were taken on a journey through the development of Jewish Law regarding divorce, get-coercion and get-refusal from the Mishnah and Talmud, through the early-day decisors until the latter-day decisors. They were then presented with a recent ruling of the State Rabbinical Court accompanied by its analysis in accordance with all the rabbinic literature they had just studied. Following that topic the students were presented with an in-depth explanation of the Jewish law that forms the basis for the Agreement for Mutual Respect, preventing get-refusal. The enthusiastic participation and incisive questions of the students gives rise to the hope that they will continue, as the next generation, in the quest for solutions to the agunah problem in accordance with Jewish law.
