Chanukah Party at Shema’s Jerusalem Branch for Deaf High School Students
This Chanukah, Shema Jerusalem, in conjunction with IYIM, hosted two amazing Chanukah parties for Deaf and hard of hearing students from Shema moadonim across the country. The first party included buses coming from Tel Aviv, Be’er Sheva and Ashkelon to join the students of Jerusalem for an exciting night of escape rooms connected to the story of Chanukah. Another room set up for the party held specially trained dogs for the students to meet and learn about how they help people. There was also a carnival style opening, with activities such as a bean bag toss and bowling. To give it a Chanukah twist, the ‘bean bags’ were actually paper sufganiyot and the target was a mouth cut out on a poster. And for bowling, the pins looked like candles. There were over 70 participants and it was a wonderful chance for everyone to meet new people, network and make new friends.
