Yom Kippur with the Deaf and Rav Alex Yeres

Yom Kippur with the Deaf

The Monday night before Yom Kippur, Rabbi Alex Yeres from IYIM Judaic Heritage Program for the Deaf  spoke to 45 participants at a center in Ashdod. Rabbi Yeres explained to all present the importance of forgiving others and being forgiving to others.

Rabbi Yeres embellished his words with several stories concerning the teshuva- repentance process with an emphasis on “repentance prayer and charity guarantee a good year”.

He concluded with a moving story of giving charity anonymously.

Then he demonstrated the blowing of the shofar at the end of the fast enabling those who could not hear to “feel” the vibrations of the shofar.

All raised a cup of wine “lechayim” for a great new year!
