A main weekend “Agunah Day Event” preceding International Agunah Day, was held at the Central synagogue of Beit Hakerem in Jerusalem. The community hosted Dr. Rachel Levmore, director of IYIM’s Agunah and Get-Refusal Prevention Project, over the weekend with a keynote lecture on Shabbat, which was attended by community members as well as Jerusalemites who had seen the promotional material and advertisements leading up to the event. The topic of the weekend was: “Prenuptial Agreements for the Prevention of Get-Refusal: An Imperative or Harmful to Romance?” The attendees expressed fascination and engagement, clearly indicated by their active questions and involvement – including the Rabbi of the entire Beit Hakerem neighborhood who attended and expressed complete identification with the proposed solution to the agunah problem. This was an extremely successful event.
