Dr Levmore attends international academic conference by the Boston Agunah Task Force

"Get Abuse as Coercive Control”.

An international academic conference, organized by the Boston Agunah Task Force, the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute at Brandeis University and Cheirut was held on the subject of “Get Abuse as Coercive Control”. YI’s Dr. Rachel Levmore was asked to speak about the halakhic ramifications of legislating get-refusal as coercive control within civil law. Dr. Levmore, appearing on a panel with two US dayanim, presented relevant halakhic rulings of the Israeli Rabbinical Courts. A deep discussion ensued between the three experts as how to apply the halakhic knowledge within American law: Rabbi Shlomo Weissman Esq., Director and Dayan of the Beth Din of America; Rabbi Aryeh Klapper, Senior Dayan of the Boston Beit Din, co-founder of the Boston Agunah Taskforce; and Dr. Levmore, Rabbinical Court Advocate and director of the YI Agunah & Get-Refusal Prevention Project.
